Coimbra Polytechnic completes 15 EU-funded energy efficiency projects

The Polytechnic University of Coimbra has completed 15 energy efficiency projects across 15 buildings, funded through Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan with an investment of around 6.2 million euros. The works cut annual primary energy consumption by 326 tonnes of oil equivalent and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 455 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, comparable to the impact of 1,000 homes. Measures included thermal insulation, LED lighting, upgraded heating and cooling systems, and 575 kWp of self-consumption electricity capacity, alongside water efficiency upgrades saving about 7,500 cubic metres annually. The buildings' energy ratings improved to between A+ and B.
