Tawny owl rescued by Barosa civic group released back into the wild

Topicswildlife restorationwildlife coexistence

One of two tawny owls rescued in April by the Barosa Viva civic movement has been released at Montejunto, after months at the wildlife recovery centre there. The birds had fallen from their nest beside a road in the Vale Frade area of Barosa, where many cats roam, so volunteers took them in and handed them to the GNR's nature protection service in Leiria, which sent them on to the centre. Movement representatives attended the release on Monday at the centre's invitation. The second owl remains in care and must first learn to hunt and feed itself before it can be freed.
