Iberian lynx recovery plan puts focus on coexistence with communities

The LPN has submitted its opinion on Portugal's draft Iberian Lynx Conservation Action Plan for 2026-2030, currently under public consultation. The document stresses that after decades of successful recovery work, the species' long-term survival now depends on managing coexistence with local communities, many of which lost the habit of living alongside lynx generations ago. It calls for monitoring public perceptions, preparing areas the lynx is expected to recolonise, addressing social and economic impacts such as pet losses, and cutting mortality rates in line with Iberian-wide targets. It also urges clearer funding estimates and better coordination between public policies.
