Douro wine institute submits 2026-2032 sustainability plan to government

The Institute of Douro and Port Wines (IVDP) has delivered to Agriculture Minister José Manuel Fernandes an executive plan for the sustainable management of the Douro wine region covering 2026-2032. The document proposes reference production costs, mandatory written grape contracts from 2027, a new environmental sustainability and landscape levy, an international promotion programme, limits on vineyard expansion, and a digital traceability system. It builds on measures already taken since 2024, including crisis distillation and import restrictions. The plan, drafted with regional and farming bodies, is still under review by the IVDP's Interprofessional Council before implementation.
