Environment minister orders priority measures to stop wolf attacks on livestock
Environment and Energy Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho has signed an order setting priority measures to prevent Iberian wolf attacks on flocks. Funding lines will open for farms, covering protection dogs and fencing, alongside technical support for livestock keepers, pilot projects using detection technology, habitat restoration and more wild prey. A map of attack hotspots will guide where action starts first. The nature conservation institute, ICNF, has 30 days to present a detailed timetable and must report to the minister every two months. The order follows the 2025-2035 Alcateia Programme on wolf conservation and coexistence.
