Farmers' group threatens protests over fuel subsidy shortfall

APROSERPA, which represents farmers on the left bank of the Guadiana, says the government's extraordinary support of 10 cents per litre for agricultural diesel, extended until 31 December, is far short of what the sector needs. The association argues that eliminating the carbon tax and VAT on that fuel component could theoretically cut prices by nearly 20 cents per litre. It cites poor cereal harvests and cash-flow problems ahead of the new sowing season, and warns it may join other farming organisations in peaceful public protests unless the government reviews fuel taxation and pricing transparency.
