Gavião council rejects Endesa solar and wind grid project

The municipal council of Gavião, in Portalegre district, issued an unfavourable opinion on a high-voltage power line project submitted by Endesa, linked to the conversion of the former Pego thermoelectric plant into renewable generation and storage. Mayor António Severino said the decision reflects the volume of renewable projects already installed locally, with 80 of 400 hectares of classified park area occupied by solar panels. He called for a more balanced distribution of such projects across territories and warned that a planned substation and additional power lines could further harm villages already affected by depopulation.
