Government hands 15 tractors to northern municipalities for fire prevention

The Portuguese government has delivered 15 tractors to 15 municipalities in northern Portugal to help prevent rural fires. The machines are part of a wider batch of 285 pieces of equipment being distributed nationally since 2025, funded by a €50 million package under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). Agreements were signed on 15 September in Amarante and Amares between the ICNF and the municipalities, attended by the Minister of Agriculture and the Sea, José Manuel Fernandes. Under the related Mais Floresta programme, 461 applications from Portuguese SMEs worth €30 million were approved for tractors, shredders and other forestry management equipment.
