A government order published in the Diário da República defines a protection perimeter around the "Furo Antas" borehole in Rubiães-Antas, Paredes de Coura, which supplies drinking water to 257 people at an average of about 64 cubic metres a day. The rules take effect on Tuesday. The aim is to limit pollution from rainwater runoff, irrigation surplus and washing water, and to allow warning systems for accidental contamination. The Portuguese Environment Agency proposed the boundaries using studies from Águas do Alto Minho, the operator, and the underlying water body is rated in good overall status.
