Zero warns Portugal's rivers and aquifers are worsening

Environmental association Zero warned on 27 September that the state of rivers and aquifers in mainland Portugal is deteriorating. The group's assessment concerns draft documents guiding the fourth cycle of River Basin Management Plans (PGRH), covering 2028-2033, which were open to public consultation. Zero said these documents confirm the poor condition of many water bodies while the proposed measures lack guaranteed funding and implementation. The association pointed to insufficient investment as a key obstacle to reversing the trend.
