Green Giants project aims to train 325 tree ambassadors

Portuguese NGO Verde plans to train at least 325 volunteer 'ambassadors' this year to identify and monitor large trees, known as 'Green Giants', across the country. Between January and October last year, over 250 ambassadors were trained, mapping more than 17,000 trees and far exceeding the initial goal of 7,500. Of these, 1,190 qualified as Trees of Public Interest. The data will underpin future projects to protect Portugal's tree and forest heritage. New training sessions are planned in Amarante, Anadia, Loures, Maia, Ponte de Lima and Porto.
