VERDE is a Portuguese nature conservation association based in Lousada that protects old-growth trees, supports biodiversity, and offers carbon offsetting through tree preservation and planting. The association engages its growing community through volunteering, membership, outdoor activities, and ambassador training.
VERDE – Associação para a Conservação Integrada da Natureza is a non-profit association headquartered in Lousada, Portugal (NIPC 516 314 270), founded in 2021 and dedicated to the integrated conservation of nature. Operating under the belief that nature has the intrinsic capacity to sustain its own cycles, VERDE positions itself as a near-invisible guiding hand — supporting ecosystems rather than imposing upon them.
The association's flagship initiative, 'Carbono Biodiverso', invites individuals and organisations to offset their carbon emissions by funding the preservation of existing ancient trees and the planting of new ones, creating a direct link between human activity and ecological restoration. Through this programme, VERDE bridges environmental accountability with meaningful biodiversity action.
Beyond carbon offsetting, VERDE cultivates an active and engaged community. Its 'Gigantes Verdes' project celebrates and raises awareness about Portugal's monumental trees, mobilising a network of over 210 volunteers to map and protect these natural giants. The 'VERDE Outdoor Club' organises hands-on nature activities, while the association offers multiple ways to get involved: becoming a member ('Sócio Verde'), joining as a volunteer, or taking on the role of a 'Guardião' (Guardian) of nature.
VERDE also provides training opportunities, including the 'Formação Embaixadores Gigantes Verdes', aimed at empowering community ambassadors for tree conservation. In 2026, the association benefits from the IEFP's 'Estágios +Talento' programme, supporting the integration of young talent into its executive team.
With a structured executive and advisory team, a growing social media community, and deep roots in northern Portugal, VERDE represents a grassroots yet scientifically grounded approach to environmental stewardship, combining rigorous conservation practice with strong community engagement.
Our Goal
VERDE aims to protect and conserve nature through integrated approaches, including the preservation of ancient trees, biodiversity restoration, and carbon offsetting, acting as a near-invisible guiding hand that supports ecosystems rather than imposing upon them.
Our Wishes
VERDE welcomes individuals and organisations to get involved as members, volunteers, or Guardians of nature, and invites support for its carbon offsetting programme, 'Carbono Biodiverso'.
