Campo Aberto - Associação de Defesa do Ambiente

Campo Aberto - Associação de Defesa do Ambiente is a non-profit environmental organisation based in Porto, Portugal, founded to defend and enhance the environment, natural and built heritage, and support nature conservation. Active since at least the mid-2000s, the association organizes debates, walks, lectures and citizen initiatives around themes such as agriculture and nature, biodiversity conservation, urban environment, and climate and pollution. It regularly publishes reports and articles addressing issues like urban planning quality in Porto neighborhoods (e.g. Nevogilde, Foz do Douro), natural heritage conservation, and the city's Municipal Climate Action Plan. Campo Aberto collaborates with other organizations, such as MUBi, and has participated in coalition efforts like the 'Justiça Climática' collective, submitting proposals to municipal candidates on climate and environmental policy. The association also organizes field trips, guided walks, and educational activities for members and the public, with structured registration and participation guidelines. It maintains an active presence through its website, publishing ongoing content across categories including 'Agricultura e Natureza', 'Conservação e Biodiversidade', 'Cidade e Ambiente Urbano', 'Energia, Clima e Poluição', and 'Ideias, Debates e Atividades'. As a membership-based association, it relies on quotas and voluntary contributions to fund its activities, and encourages public participation in general assemblies and environmental advocacy efforts. The organization's mission centers on citizen engagement in environmental protection, thoughtful urban development, and safeguarding Portugal's natural and cultural heritage for future generations, particularly in the Porto metropolitan area.
