NOVA IMS soilless campus garden yields 80 kg in first harvest

Topicslocal food systems

A vertical garden at NOVA IMS's Campolide campus in Lisbon completed its first harvest on 15 October, producing around 80 kilos of lettuce, spinach, rocket, parsley and coriander. The crops grew without soil on fifteen aeroponic towers, with roots fed directly by water and nutrients. The produce goes to the university community and to a local parish social centre. The garden is part of NOVA Bela Flor, a project approved under Lisbon's BIP/ZIP 2025 programme and run with Upfarming and several partners. Volunteers from the academic community tend the plants, and the aim is a regular production cycle.
