ICNF repairs forest road network at Mata Nacional da Machada

Portugal's nature and forests institute (ICNF) is repairing the forest road network at Mata Nacional da Machada, in Barreiro, working with the local council after storm damage earlier this year. Firefighting and forestry agent teams, supported by tracked and rotary machinery, are restoring access on priority routes needed for fire prevention, response and forest management. The site was visited by ICNF's leadership and a Barreiro councillor. Separately, ICNF is clearing vegetation with the Portuguese Navy near the adjoining Fuzileiros school. The 376.5-hectare woodland holds significant environmental, historical and social value for local communities.
