INE forecasts 40% rise in almond output for 2026

Portugal's statistics institute INE forecasts a generally favourable 2026 spring/summer harvest, driven by fruit crops: almonds up 40%, peaches up 30%, pears up 20% and kiwis up 10% year-on-year. Wine and table grape productivity should also rise, 12% and 10% respectively, with grape harvesting running ahead of schedule and in good condition. Pear harvesting, mostly finished in the Oeste region, is benefiting from lower disease incidence, though high summer temperatures reduced fruit size. Potato output is up 10% under irrigation but facing sales difficulties, while dry pastures are forcing livestock farms in the Alentejo to draw on feed reserves.
