Lagoa runs year-long environmental education projects for children

The Municipality of Lagoa ran several environmental education initiatives for local children and young people during the 2025/2026 school year and summer holiday programme, under the Blue Flag 2026 scheme. Projects included "Literacia para a Floresta" with the League for the Protection of Nature, covering five schools, and "Turma do Libérico", teaching pupils about 12 threatened species. During the summer, activities on oceans, ecosystems and wildlife recovery took place at the Sítio das Fontes park and local schools, run with partners including RIAS. The council says the goal is to strengthen children's knowledge of biodiversity and habitat conservation.
