Leiria and Oeste university team wins national Poliempreende award

The Salinexis project, developed by a team from the University of Leiria and Oeste, won the national final of the Poliempreende entrepreneurship competition, held on 3 September at the University of Algarve. The project proposes a biotechnological solution to sustainably produce cosmetic ingredients from coastal resources near Peniche, using plant cell culture technology based on the sea fennel plant (Crithmum maritimum). It had already won the regional stage in June. Over roughly 48 months, the team aims to develop a product portfolio and pilot-scale production capacity for the cosmetics industry.
