Lisbon mayor says 1,243 new council homes built since 2021, 36% of those handed over

Topicssustainable housing

Lisbon mayor Carlos Moedas told the city's Municipal Assembly that 1,243 council homes have been built from scratch since 2021. They make up 36% of the 3,444 keys handed over in five years. He compared this with 155 new-build homes between 2011 and 2021 under Socialist administrations, under 17 a year. The PS countered that the gap is only about 60 homes and that it had no access to EU funds. Moedas said the city had €885 million available in 2008-2021 and asked what it was spent on. He also cited large housing sites that remain unexecuted.
