Maize sector's Field Day in Coruche gathers 240 for innovation debate

InovMilho held its annual Field Day on 2 September at the António Teixeira Experimental Station in Coruche, gathering around 240 farmers, technicians, researchers and officials, including Agriculture Minister José Manuel Fernandes. Sessions covered maize production challenges, Dwarf Virus impact, phytosanitary safety, soil management, precision agriculture and wild boar control measures. A collaboration protocol was signed between B-Rural, CRUP and CCISP to connect higher education with the agricultural sector. ANPROMIS president Jorge Durão Neves criticised Portugal's extraordinary aid of 61 euros per hectare for maize producers, lower than Spain's 92.50 euros. The minister announced a pilot project paying hunters per wild boar culled in overpopulated areas.
