Nature institute to target wild boar entry routes into Setúbal

The Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF) is stepping up its plan to control wild boar in the Arrábida area near Setúbal, focusing on the routes animals use to reach the town and its beaches, after repeated sightings reported on social media. Officials say the increase in urban sightings is typical for this time of year, linked to the post-breeding season rather than uncontrolled population growth, and that the overall population remains stable. Measures include identifying crossing points, trapping or hunting, informational posters on beaches, and appeals for more frequent rubbish collection. The ICNF cannot authorise culls in urban areas itself, citing public safety rules.
