Portugal sets 20-day cap on Iberian wolf damage payouts

Portugal's environment and agriculture ministries have signed a joint order setting a maximum 20-working-day deadline to assess livestock losses caused by Iberian wolf attacks, with payments due by the end of the following month. The government says current procedures, which can drag on for months, worsen the economic impact on farmers, especially smaller and extensive livestock operations. The measure follows recent updates to compensation values and expanded eligibility, including missing animals and those under one month old. The new deadlines take effect on 1 January 2027, allowing ICNF and IFAP time to adapt their systems.
