Only five Portuguese councils still lack Volta deposit points

According to SDR Portugal, the entity managing the deposit-refund system for single-use drink containers, only five of Portugal's 308 municipalities lack registered Volta collection points: Alcoutim, Mora, Ribeira de Pena, Santa Marta de Penaguião and Corvo. The system's own website, however, showed 16 municipalities without any point as of 27 August, a gap the operator blames on outdated data. Local officials in Oleiros and Mourão dispute the SDR's claims, saying no equipment exists in their councils despite being told otherwise, forcing residents to travel dozens of kilometres to recover the 10-cent deposit. In Mora, a machine has been installed but is not yet operational.
