Ponte de Lima buys 12 hectares to expand protected wetland area

The Ponte de Lima municipality has acquired about 12 hectares of land from the local Santa Casa da Misericórdia, located within the Bertiandos and São Pedro de Arcos lagoons protected landscape area. The €181,038 purchase, partly funded by €89,888 from FEDER, is part of a wider Norte 2030 project on nature and biodiversity conservation. Much of the land contains native hygrophilous woodland of high ecological value, helping maintain habitat connectivity. The broader project, with eligible spending of €798,300, also covers wetland and riverbank restoration along the Estorãos river and public awareness initiatives.
