Portugal leg of global COP31 cycling relay starts in Oeiras

The COP 31 Bike Ride, an international relay promoting cycling for climate action, will formally hand ten proposals to Portugal's Environment Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho on 28 June in Oeiras. The baton, which sailed from Brazil via the Azores, will then travel by bicycle towards Antalya, Turkey, host of COP 31 in November. Lisbon's regional development commission (CCDR-LVT) has challenged the region's 52 municipalities to adopt the proposals by 2030. Organisers say the relay, involving around ten thousand activists from over 20 countries, aims to surpass last year's edition, which delivered commitment letters to 60 regions and municipalities.
