Portugal moves towards dedicated furniture and mattress waste system

Portugal could have a dedicated entity managing the collection and treatment of furniture and mattress waste as early as 2026, according to Jornal de Negócios. A formal licence application has already been filed by Mobilão, created by IKEA Portugal, Leroy Merlin, Colunex, Emma and Electrão. Meanwhile, Circular+MC, newly formed by ERP Portugal and Novo Verde together with the AIMMP furniture industry association, is preparing to submit its own candidacy. If the process proceeds as planned, an integrated system for collecting and directing this type of waste could be operational next year.
