Portugal orders 120-day plan for Tagus south bank water supply

The Portuguese government has published an order requiring the Portuguese Environment Agency and the ÁdP group to present, within 120 days, a technical solution to strengthen water resilience in areas south of the Tagus, drawing from Castelo de Bode or the Tagus river. The measure follows recent water supply failures in Almada in early July, which exposed the system's lack of redundancy and backup sources. The plan must also anticipate rising demand from the new Luís de Camões Airport and associated urban and business growth, while reducing pressure on the Tejo-Sado aquifer.
