Portugal's Environmental Fund reallocates funding across forests and water

Portugal's Environmental Fund has reprogrammed its 2026 funding by ministerial order, redirecting money towards forest fuel clearance, urban green space restoration, water efficiency and nature conservation. Key measures include four million euros for a second phase of the Active Forest programme, an increased 3.7 million euros for bottled gas support to households on the social electricity tariff, and eight million euros for ecosystem restoration across seven municipalities. Additional funds target water infrastructure in the Azores, the Algarve and elsewhere, plus 4.5 million euros for carbon-sequestration projects in agriculture and forestry.
