Póvoa de Varzim school wins European Climate Pact prize

The "Super Guardiões do Planeta" project, run by Escola Básica de Rates in Póvoa de Varzim, was named national winner of the Pact2School Challenge 2026, a European Climate Pact competition supporting school climate action. Led by ambassador Ana Milhazes, the initiative teaches primary pupils about biodiversity, marine pollution, food waste and the five Rs of zero waste, including composting. The project was chosen among 15 winning entries from 22 European countries. The school will receive 1,000 euros to continue sustainability practices, building on existing efforts like waste separation and reduced plastic use.
