PS proposes chestnut-led forest conversion in Serra de São Mamede

The PS parliamentary group has tabled a resolution urging the government to draft a forest conversion plan for 190.5 hectares recently brought under forest regime in Serra de São Mamede, Marvão, favouring chestnut trees and other native species. The land was included as compensation for the expansion of Celbi's industrial unit in Figueira da Foz. Much of the area is currently pine, which the PS says is more vulnerable to wildfire spread. The party wants the plan drawn up by the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests, working with local authorities, producers and the Portalegre Polytechnic, promoting diversified, climate-resilient forest management.
