Public consultation opens on Portugal's nature restoration plan

Portugal has opened a public consultation on the draft National Nature Restoration Plan and its Strategic Environmental Assessment, running until 19 August 2026 via the Participa Portal and the Nature Restoration Portal. Drawn up under EU Regulation 2024/1991, the plan sets goals and priorities to reverse ecosystem degradation and biodiversity loss across terrestrial, marine, agricultural, forest, riparian and urban areas. Under the EU rules, Portugal must restore at least 20% of its land and sea areas by 2030, with all ecosystems needing recovery under restoration by 2050. Citizens and organisations can submit comments online.
