Quercus urges APA to stand firm on Grândola beach access

Environmental group Quercus called on the government and the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) to resist pressure from developer Coporgest, owner of the Comporta Beach & Golf Resort project, which reportedly threatened legal action against APA. The dispute concerns plans to build 250 parking spaces near the only public access point to the Camarinhas and Duna Cinzenta beaches in Grândola, part of a revision of the Espichel-Odeceixe coastal programme announced by Environment Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho. Quercus says the parking is essential for genuine public access, currently limited to a single signposted path. Coporgest disputes this, arguing the parking should serve Camarinhas beach and accusing the Pestana Group of restricting access there.
