Quercus wildlife hospitals took in 1,181 animals in the first half of 2026

Topicswildlife restoration

Quercus's three wildlife recovery centres, in Cadaval, Castelo Branco and the Alentejo coast, admitted 1,181 animals in the first half of 2026, of which 1,055 arrived alive. Birds made up about 86% of admissions, and June alone brought 509 animals. The main reason for admission was nestlings fallen from nests or found orphaned, at 525 animals. The Montejunto centre has already reached roughly 72% of its whole 2025 intake. Quercus welcomed the continued Environmental Fund support that keeps the centres running and advises anyone finding an injured animal to call the SOS Ambiente e Território line rather than handle it.
