Sousel wind farm to power 29,000 homes from 2027

A wind farm under construction in Sousel, Portalegre district, is expected to start operating in 2027, producing enough renewable energy to supply around 29,000 homes. The Parque Eólico da Nortada, developed by Hyperion Renewables, will have seven turbines totalling 31.5 MW and will connect underground to a solar plant and battery storage system in nearby Estremoz, also owned by the company. The municipality estimates annual output of about 90 GWh, avoiding roughly 33,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, alongside local economic benefits including road upgrades and masters scholarships for residents.
