Topicslivestock farming

The Tavira Agricultural Experimentation Centre hosts a forum on 12 November, from 9.30am, on preserving and adding value to the Algarve's native breeds: Algarvia cattle, Churra Algarvia sheep and Algarvia goats. Organised by the regional development commission CCDR Algarve with the regional veterinary services, it marks National Native Breeds Day and opens the centenary of the former Tavira agricultural station. Breeders' associations, researchers, councils and farming and tourism representatives will take part. The programme includes University of Algarve work on the breeds' genomics, a pilot project to add value to Churra Algarvia lamb, a debate and a regional produce tasting, plus three exhibitions.
