Topicsfood waste reduction

Tratolixo, the intermunicipal company handling urban waste for Cascais, Mafra, Oeiras and Sintra, says bio-waste collected in the first six months of the year rose 6.5%. Total waste grew 1.13%, or 2,846 more tonnes than a year earlier. The company credits a 11.66% rise in green waste and wider use of the green bag, which collected 45% more than in the same period of 2025. Multimaterial separate collection rose 3.14% to over 23,400 tonnes. The green bag, free in the four municipalities, now reaches over 55% of residents and supports EU recycling targets.
