Turismo de Portugal has formalised its first three funding contracts under a scheme to create and upgrade climate refuges, committing €210,000 towards projects with a combined investment of more than €282,000. They are in Arroios (Lisbon), Valdujo (Trancoso) and Praia de Mira (Mira). Each project adds trees and green areas, shade, resting places and drinking water, with misting systems in Valdujo and Praia de Mira, to ease high temperatures in public spaces. Valdujo's works centre on a motorhome service area and surrounding leisure space. A refuge must be free to enter, open at least from 11am to 5pm on the hottest days, and offer seating, water and cooling. Locations appear on an online map.
