Ferreira do Alentejo biomethane plant planned, with public consultation open until 25 November

Topicsrenewable gas

A €20 million plant to produce biomethane is proposed for the Penique Agro-industrial Park in Odivelas, Ferreira do Alentejo, with a planned lifespan of 25 years. Promoted by FBG Ferreira do Alentejo, it would digest 69,500 tonnes a year of livestock and agro-industrial waste, including cattle manure and olive pomace. Output is estimated at about 4.9 million normal cubic metres of gas annually, destined for the national gas distribution network. Possible impacts include odours, noise, CO2 emissions and up to 33 heavy lorries a day in the olive season. The environmental impact study can be commented on until 25 November via the Participa portal.
