Verdelhos commons showcased as maritime pine management model

Centro PINUS released a new PINUS TV episode documenting forest management at the Baldio de Verdelhos, a 2,200-hectare commons in the Covilhã municipality within Serra da Estrela Natural Park. Four years after a fire, natural regeneration includes trees over two metres tall, now managed by a forest ranger team. David Martins, head of the governing council, explains thinning practices, plans to mix conifers with broadleaf species, and the commons' income from forestry, which funds five permanent jobs and the restoration of a water mill on the Beijames river.
