WWF Portugal calls for stronger nature restoration plan

WWF Portugal submitted its input to the public consultation on the National Nature Restoration Plan, warning of structural gaps that could undermine its goals. The organisation flagged that only 90 of 406 proposed measures have financial estimates, making it impossible to assess whether funding will suffice. It also criticised weak treatment of coastal and marine ecosystems, agricultural measures that may simply recount existing CAP support, and the lack of a clear governance model naming responsible entities. WWF also said consultation sessions were too concentrated in Lisbon, sidelining fishing communities and other stakeholders. Portugal must submit a first plan version to the European Commission by September.
