BioPasiva Portugal

BioPasiva Portugal is the Portuguese arm of a Spanish timber-frame builder with more than 30 years of experience. It designs and builds bioclimatic passive houses and is an official partner of Passivhaus Portugal.

BioPasiva Portugal builds timber-frame houses and other buildings that use very little energy and stay comfortable all year. The company says it has more than 30 years of experience in healthy, efficient, ecological wood construction. It is now bringing that work to Portugal, with a base in the Setúbal area. The parent company, Fabricación y Construcción BioPasiva, is registered in Madrid. Its portfolio is mostly Spanish: the first certified Passivhaus in the Community of Madrid and the fifth in Spain, the first Passivhaus in Murcia, a rural tourism building in Asturias, and houses in Hoyo de Manzanares and Boadilla del Monte. It also runs showrooms in Madrid. Every design starts from bioclimatic principles, meaning the shape and orientation of the house are chosen to cut energy demand. A passive house keeps a steady indoor temperature through the year without conventional heating or cooling. Designs are fully customisable, with no limits on size, height or shape. BioPasiva works to the Passivhaus efficiency standard. It checks results with Blower Door airtightness tests and thermography, and says its buildings can reach certifications such as LEED, BREEAM and CBCe. It is the first company associated with Passivhaus Portugal to offer a construction system made specifically for homes and buildings that will be Passivhaus certified. The structure is timber, built with a light wood frame system. Research and development feeds back into its designs, always within current building regulations. People who want a comfortable house with minimal energy costs can send their project through the website.
