MARE-Madeira (Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre)

MARE-Madeira, based at the Marina da Quinta Grande, is the Madeira pole of the Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre (MARE), a Portuguese research institution focused on the study and conservation of marine and coastal ecosystems. Operating in partnership with ARDITI (Regional Agency for the Development of Research, Technology and Innovation), the centre is housed at the Madeira Tecnopolo, Caminho da Penteada. Researchers at MARE-Madeira study marine biodiversity, cetaceans, coastal habitats and the broader environmental dynamics of the Atlantic archipelago, contributing scientific knowledge that underpins conservation policy and sustainable ocean management in the region.
