SerQ – Centro de Inovação e Competências da Floresta
SerQ is a scientific and technological association based in Sertã that drives research, development and innovation for the forestry and wood products sector. It runs applied projects on carbon footprints, sustainable construction and forest management, often with national and European funding.
SerQ, the Centro de Inovação e Competências da Floresta, is a scientific, technological and training association based in Sertã, in the Zona Industrial. Founded in 2014, it focuses on research and experimental development, training, technology transfer, consultancy, and certification for the agro-forestry sector, with wood products as a central theme.
The centre runs several active projects. Sustain4est, developed with AFLOBEI and supported by the Fundação "la Caixa" Programa Promove, BPI and the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, addresses carbon and environmental footprint calculations for forest products. ECOQUALIFICA+, financed by COMPETE 2030 and led by the Cluster Habitat Sustentável, brings together SerQ with CATIM, CeNTI and CITEVE to work on ecodesign, circular economy, ESG criteria and green financing in the Habitat value chain. HyMotion, funded through CENTRO 2030 and COMPETE 2030, runs until March 2028 and covers materials specification, component testing and modular system evaluation.
SerQ also organises TimberWorQs, an event on wood construction that reached Lisbon in its 2026 edition, bringing together speakers, partners and sponsors to discuss the future of sustainable building in timber.
With close to 1,900 followers on LinkedIn, SerQ positions its work around the improvement of raw material quality, the development of new products, and the creation of jobs in the forestry sector. The association issues carbon certification, illustrated by its recent Certificado de Carbono Evitado for Silvex's collection bags for used Nestlé Nespresso capsules.

SerQ works to strengthen the competitiveness of Portugal's forestry and wood products sector through research, technology transfer, training, and certification of products and solutions.
Our Wishes
The centre is recruiting a project technician in civil or mechanical engineering for its HyMotion project and invites companies and professionals in the forestry and construction sectors to become associates.
