Reflorestar Portugal

Reflorestar Portugal is a non-governmental, non-profit association dedicated to the ecological and agroforestry regeneration of forests and communities throughout Portugal. Operating since 2017 and formally constituted as the Associação ReflorestarPT – Regeneração Ecológica e Social in March 2023, the organisation functions as an accelerator of natural processes guided by the motto 'Think like a Forest'. Its work rests on two interconnected pillars: ecosystem regeneration and social impact. Rooted in the principles of syntropy and biomimicry, Reflorestar Portugal designs interventions that go beyond simple tree planting — creating resilient, biodiverse ecosystems that integrate the needs of both nature and human communities. Reforestation and agroforestry projects have achieved survival rates of between 50% and 90%, with a strong emphasis on native species, soil restoration, and water cycle recovery. Services offered include biodiverse reforestation, agroforestry design and implementation, ecosystem regeneration consultancy, regenerative project management, corporate eco-team building, technical training in accelerated natural regeneration and succession agroforestry, and CO₂ compensation and ecological footprint offsetting for businesses. Education and community engagement are central to the organisation's mission. Through workshops, lectures, citizen assemblies, and national gatherings, Reflorestar Portugal applies a 'multiplying the multipliers' strategy — training individuals who go on to inspire wider change. Programmes reach audiences from schoolchildren to corporate teams, from rural landowners to urban citizens, building a nationwide network of committed land guardians. The organisation connects diverse actors in society — municipalities, companies, schools, rural communities, and international partners — positioning itself as a catalyst for systemic socio-environmental resilience throughout Portugal.
