Azores

Nine volcanic islands in the middle of the Atlantic, where sustainability is less an ideal than arithmetic, what is not grown here arrives by boat. The ocean leads the work: the Azores UNESCO Global Geopark links geosites across the archipelago, Blue Azores runs marine protection with the Oceano Azul Foundation, and Amigos dos Açores defends the islands' nature from São Miguel. On land, Quinta dos Sabores farms organically near Rabo de Peixe, Horta Cá de Casa teaches permaculture and syntropic farming on Faial, and Quinta da Vida Beleza is building a cob ecovillage at Lagoa.
