Energy efficiency in Portugal
Portuguese houses are famously cold in winter, and the reason is not the climate: it is a building stock designed for a mild coast, built without insulation, and heated late and briefly. Energy poverty here is a measurable public health issue, not a metaphor.
Green Heritage supplies modular low-energy homes from Idanha-a-Nova. Cleanwatts and Comunidade CER work on the demand side of energy communities, Coopérnico supplies renewable electricity to members, and AREAM runs regional energy programmes across Madeira. The Hide keeps a co-living site running on a small demand in a valley near Oleiros.
