Water conservation in Portugal
Portugal receives most of its rain in a few winter months and then spends the summer living off what it managed to keep. Reservoirs in the south have hit historic lows more than once in the last decade, and agriculture uses the large majority of what is stored.
Slow Water Earth designs landscape-scale retention with farmers and restoration projects. Tamera built water retention landscapes near Odemira over thirty years. Environmental Waves works on treatment technology in the north, GEOTA argues the policy case nationally, and farms like Herdade Monte Silveira and Várzea da Gonçala do it plot by plot.
