AREAC – Agência Regional de Energia e Ambiente do Centro

AREAC is a non-profit regional energy and environment agency based in Miranda do Corvo, founded in 2003 by municipalities in Portugal's Centro region. It runs energy audits, certification, water efficiency and public lighting projects for its member municipalities and local businesses.
AREAC, the Regional Energy and Environment Agency of Centro, is a private non-profit body set up in July 2003 by several municipalities in Portugal's Centro region. It was created under the European Union's SAVE programme, alongside two sister agencies: AGENA in Teramo, Italy, and PAZE in Poland.
Its statutory goal is to increase energy efficiency through rational use and conservation of energy, and to improve the use of local energy resources. AREAC pursues this by introducing energy and environmental concepts into territorial planning, promoting technologies that cut energy use and environmental impact, and supporting new economic activity and jobs tied to sustainable regional development.
The agency's technical work covers energy efficiency (audits, certification, public lighting inventories), water efficiency (leak detection in low-pressure distribution networks), mobility and waste and environment projects. It also runs a programme called Eficiência Energética Solidária, aimed at vulnerable households, and offers energy diagnostics to associates, businesses and citizens.
AREAC is based in Miranda do Corvo, Coimbra district, at Rua Dr. Rosa Falcão, n.º 133. Its technical team includes a mechanical/electrical engineer as technical director and an environmental technician with a master's degree in environmental management. The agency is a member of RNAE, the national network of Portuguese energy and environment agencies.
Our Goal
AREAC works to raise energy efficiency and make better use of local energy resources across the Centro region of Portugal, through technical projects, audits and certification that support rational use of energy and environmental protection.
