Cleanwatts

Cleanwatts invests in, installs and operates solar power plants at its clients' premises. Organisations put up no capital of their own and get renewable electricity at a competitive, predictable price over the long term. Surplus electricity is shared within a local Energy Community, which brings economic, environmental and social value to nearby businesses, institutions and households. The company is a climate technology business headquartered in Coimbra, and its aim is to bring the energy transition to the local level. In August 2021, Cleanwatts set up Portugal's first renewable Energy Community, in Miranda do Douro. It has since expanded its network of communities across the country, using its own digital technology, its capital and its operational experience to handle every stage of building an energy community. The company also supplies energy management systems that fine-tune how each community consumes and shares electricity. That improves energy security and helps decarbonise local economies. Cleanwatts works with producers, who generate clean solar electricity, and with consumers who want renewable energy at competitive rates. The team is expanding, and investors include DWS Infrastructure. Cleanwatts is taking the model abroad through its Cleanwatts Digital platform, which it wants to become the operating system of choice for creating and managing renewable energy communities worldwide.
