As part of the PRIO Energy group, the company integrates the full value chain from logistics and production to distribution of low-emission energy solutions across Portugal.
PRIO Biocombustíveis is a leading biodiesel producer established in 2006 and headquartered at the Port of Aveiro, Portugal. The facility operates with an annual production capacity of 113,880 tonnes of biodiesel and runs a 24-hour quality control laboratory equipped with advanced testing capabilities. Its production processes not only meet but exceed the European Quality Standard EN14214, delivering superior product specifications to the market.
The primary application of PRIO biodiesel is as a blending component in diesel fuel. Since 2010, Portuguese road diesel has incorporated 7% biodiesel, and PRIO's research shows that blends of 10–30% biodiesel offer optimal benefits — including measurable reductions in fuel consumption — without compromising engine performance. The company also provides customised fuel formulations based on detailed analysis and testing tailored to individual client requirements.
Beyond transportation fuels, PRIO biodiesel serves as an eco-friendly plasticiser in polyurethane formulations, leveraging its exceptional solvency and viscosity properties to offer a sustainable alternative to conventional chemical products with negative environmental impacts.
PRIO Biocombustíveis holds a comprehensive portfolio of certifications, including ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), ISO 9001 (Quality Management), OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety), and the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC). As a member of the BCSD — Business Council for Sustainable Development — the company actively promotes sustainable practices within the broader energy sector.
The company forms part of PRIO Energy, a group that integrates the entire low-carbon fuel value chain: primary logistics, production, and distribution across Portugal.
